Short Stories Written by Nine Siblings
Every story is written from our point of view; it may not have really happened that way but it was remembered that way. And to our mother, we know you probably know the “real” story.
Walk with the Minnichs and journey through the trials and laughter of growing up.
There are very few luxuries when growing up in a middle-class family with nine siblings. Unless, of course, you managed to get your own room, loved getting hand-me-downs, made-up games to play, didn’t mind your mom giving you medical treatment instead of actually going to a real doctor, and didn’t have a problem driving around in a fully windowed nine-passenger van. We grew up in a modest house with two telephones, one and a half bathrooms, one television and no air conditioning.
This 156-page book is a collection of stories labeled with the storyteller’s ranking number within the family.

Every family has stories.
Ours just happen to involve indoor ponds, hitchhiking, and questionable decision-making. Here’s a sneak peek.
The Bedroom Pond
I remember my brothers and I built a pond in our room without my parents’ knowledge. We draped plastic over wood planks and filled it with water. When they found out, they let us keep it for awhile until it started to stink up the rest of the house. Even though our room was at the very end of the long hallway, the pond smell did eventually creep out into the rest of our house. Maybe it was from the real crayfish and mud we imported from the creek down the street. – Bobby #3
Hitchhikers
When we were teenagers, we would often fight in the van. Dad would make us get out and walk home. One time, Sandy and Bobby were banished from the vehicle for fighting. When we got home, we found Sandy and Bobby waiting for us. They had hitchhiked home. Mom and Dad were not happy. – Theresa #6
